Janet's Story

By Greg Williams

I’ve been writing these stories since my children were small.  The inspiration came from my children’s delightful enjoyment of each new story book character.

My sister Janet was an artist and a musician, a brilliantly creative person.  She loved the stories and wanted to do the illustrations.  I sent her six of them but before she could do any of the drawings, she was involved in a tragic car accident.  Janet nearly died and against all odds, she was still alive when I got to the hospital.  She could not walk, talk, eat, or hold her head up.  She was fed by a tube inserted into her stomach.  Many months later Janet still couldn’t talk but she could hold a pencil.  She communicated to me that Jesus would restore her and she would finish drawing the illustrations for my books.  The opportunity to illustrate gave Janet a mission.  She could barely hold a paint brush when we started but she committed herself to being part of my stories.  Over the next two years, with great perseverance, Janet drew the illustrations.

Janet suffered a severe head injury.  She had many complications and has undergone several major surgeries.  She was forced to start over; learning to walk, talk, swallow and all the other activities of daily living most of us accomplish so easily.  Janet never lost hope. She wouldn’t let the accident take away her passion for life.  I am inspired everyday by her faith, determination and perseverance.

True to her faith, Janet was healed and completed many of the illustrations used in the twelve books of the “Dragon Fly Collection.”  A young “Custom Artist” named Ernie J. Miller drew the cover art.  The coloring and shading was done by the author, Greg Williams.

Although Janet lost much of her artistic ability, she refused to be discouraged and drew simple pictures from her heart.  Janet’s pictures are beautiful and inspiring.  I am proud to have my sister’s illustrations as part of my series.

The story within the story is Janet’s journey.  It is one of faith, hope, courage, and the love of family.  It is a story where miracles really do happen!
